What is LAT?

LAT stands for Law Admission Test; a test for those who want to become a Law Graduate and pursue a career in the field of Law. It has been prescribed by the Higher Education commission (HEC) on the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. It may be termed as the HEC LAT Test.

Why do we need to appear for the Law Admission Test (LAT)?

With the evolution in educational practices, the professionals have developed tests for specialized fields for assessing the aptitude of students. These tests are designed for the level of degree for which the students are seeking admissions. The universities in USA designed a test for Law schools, known as the Law School Admission Test. The test has been in practice since 1945 and considered one good source to assess the aptitude of students towards Law. It comprises of six sections each of 35 duration making it 3 hours and 30 minutes test. The Law Admission Test (LAT) is in practice in India for years. The same was felt necessary in Pakistan for students seeking admission in Law Colleges and the HEC Pakistan has announced to conduct the HEC LAT Test for the LLB Classes admission.

What is the purpose of the LAT Test in Pakistan?

The HEC LAT Test is the basic for seeking admission in LLB (5 years program) and is an important factor in deciding the aptitude, keenness and career of an individual. The basic function of the LAT Test is to ascertain and assess the aptitude of an interested students whether he / she has the right kind of attitude towards the degree of LLB and further a career in the field of Law such as Lawyer, Consultant, Judge, Attorney, Prosecutor etc.

HEC Pakistan has announced to conduct the Law Admission Test (LAT) from 2018 for admission in LLB 5 years program in public and private sector universities & their affiliated colleges across the country.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for LAT Test?

The students who have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent/grade 12 education or the students who have appeared in the exams and now waiting for the results.

When can we appear for LAT Test?

HEC conducts LAT thrice a year. You can appear during any of the three slots.

For how long does the LAT result remain valid?

The LAT Result remains valid for two years.

How can we register for LAT?

To be registered for LAT, follow the below guidelines. In case of any issue during registration, applicants can visit OR HEC Regional Centres in Quetta, Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad, Bahawalpur and Karachi for guidance. Helpline: +92 51 111-119-432, 0334-111-9432

  1. Visit the link for online registration.
  2. Application submission comprises of two steps, i.e., profile completion using "My Profile" section and application submission using "Law Admission Test" link on menu panel in the left hand side bar of online portal
  3. Only SUBMITTED applications will be considered for LAT Test and applications in SAVE or INCOMPLETE mode will not be entertained.

The test is conducted in major cities, Applicants may select any test/ examination centre from the list available in the application form. The examination centre cannot be changed after registration.

How can we fill the Application Form for LAT?

  1. Registration - To start the application process, the candidate needs to go to the application portal (link will be provided on this page) once application starts. The candidate next has to go through registration formalities, like filling of email ID, mobile number, name, etc.
  2. Filling of relevant details - The candidate has next duly fill the various sections of the form, including academic, personal and contact details.
  3. Uploading of documents - Next the candidate has to upload scanned copies of essential documents - photograph and signature - in the desired format.
  4. Payment of application fee - In the penultimate step, the candidate has to pay the application fee; category-wise fee details can be checked from the table below:

What is the fee for LAT Test 2020?

  1. Test Fee of Rs.500/- is to be deposited Online/ ATM or through Bank Draft in Account No: 1742 7900 133401. Account Title: Higher Education Commission, Bank: Habib Bank Limited, Branch Code: 1742
  2. Applicants are required to send a copy of Fee Deposit Slip/ ATM/ Online Transfer or Original Bank Draft through courier at the address: 13-209, 2nd Floor, HRD Building, HEC, Sector H-8, Islamabad on or before the last date of registration.
  3. Please mention your CNIC number at the backside of the Deposit Slip/Bank Draft
  4. The Test Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Who can Apply for the LAT?

  • Students who have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent/Grade 12 education
  • Students who have appeared in the final examination of HSSC or equivalent/Grade 12 education and those awaiting results
